reserve civil motion date

Use this program to reserve your motion hearing date if the department where your case is assigned accepts reservations.

There are no additional fees charged to use this motion hearing reservation system. You will be charged the applicable first paper or motion fee, a $30 court reporter fee (if there is a court reporter assigned to your department), or a $20 postponement fee at the time you reserve or continue the motion reservation date. Agencies that are exempt from filing fees pursuant to GC 6103 may also use this application.

To expedite your motion filing, place the appropriate court reservation number (e.g. RES XXXX) on each motion being submitted.

What motions can be scheduled ?

This system was developed for reserving general civil law and motion hearings for most civil case types.

Litigants may reserve the following law and motion hearing types:

  • Trial/Non-Trial Related Ex-Partes
  • Judgment Debtor Exams
  • Motion for Summary Judgment
  • Anti-SLAPP Motions
  • Civil Discovery Motions
  • Motions to Strike
  • Demurrers
  • All General Motions

Once the motion hearing date is reserved or postponed, the fees are non-refundable.

All motions and related documents shall be filed with the clerk’s office according to statute. Once this paperwork is filed with the court your reservation shall be confirmed.

What motions cannot be scheduled through this program?

The following motions may not be scheduled online and must be filed at the applicable court location:

  • Motions on Small Claims Cases (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Motions on Unlawful Detainer Cases (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Civil Motions for New Trial (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Civil Motions to Set Aside Judgment (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Civil Motions Notwithstanding Verdict (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Civil Motions for Pro Hac Vice (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Motions in Limine (These shall be filed with the assigned trial dept.)
  • Default Prove-Up (Contact your local clerk's office)
  • Claim of Exemptions (Contact your local clerk's office)
Postponing an Existing Reservation

Parties my postpone existing motion hearing reservations under the following circumstances:

  • The existing reservation is scheduled 30 or more days out - general motions
  • The existing reservation is scheduled 90 or more days out - summary judgments

Please Note: You will be charged a fee of $20 for each postponement.

Once the motion hearing date is reserved or postponed, the fees are non-refundable.

The moving party is responsible for preparing and serving any notices relating to a postponement of a motion reservation hearing date (if applicable). The court will not notify any parties of reservation postponements.
